This Kind

Label: SLV
Release Date: May 5, 2015
Duration: 10 tracks, 39:54

This Kind marks the second collaborative effort of Sandra Lilia Velasquez (hence the title SLV) and song writing partner Sean Dixon. The collection is a mix of soul, R&B and electronic music.

“Prelude”, an instrumental, opens with a strong string arrangement, measured and dramatic leading into “Fire Eyes”, a Sade / Cirque du Soliel-like impression of loves chemistry. Varying stories of love and heartache flow with electronica and beats through the collections core highlighted by Velasquez’ sensual and caring vocals.

“Sunlight” offers a deep and compelling desire to break away from the desperation and anxiety of life and love to a better place – ‘…can’t we go somewhere…’. The chorus’ refrain with background strings brings the listener into the song. With a smooth transition to powerful deep and somber electric piano, “Dream” again takes the listener to another place. Upbeat, giving hope amid despair, “Cheerleader” reminds us we all need someone to believe in us.
