Set Me Free

Artist: Jennifer Knapp
Label: Righteous Babe
Release Date: October 14, 2014
Duration:  11 tracks, 40:40

Powerful vocals matching message - ranging the spectrum from hot and angry to sensitive personal, hard hitting, soulful and passionate, it is all here on Set Me Free. This is the gift that Jennifer Knapp has and always gives.

Not only this but a song writer without equal, she maintains her faith while focusing on today’s human condition through both personal experience and observation while emoting perfectly matched melody to prose.

The album’s namesake, “Set Me Free”, is sensitive and warm pleading for a relationship to end. In this vane, “The Tale” matches soft guitar and percussion to Knapp’s emotionally clad vocals and “So Happy” marries meaningful lyric and melody telling of second chances. Knapp’s ability to rock is not forgotten here, “Remedy” is a hot, steady rocker with hard-hitting lyrics.

Her strong vocals have lost nothing as witnessed in “Mercy’s Tree” with controlled vibrato and wide vocal range so apparent in laying the foundation for the song’s message. However, the highlight of this album is not one which Knapp penned. The oft-covered “Sweet Love” is Knapp’s take on this classic love song so smooth and well done it certainly is at the top of the best covers of this tune. Again, Knapp’s broad vocal range amazes and stays long with the listener. The finale, “Come Back”, softly builds to an emotional crescendo of want and requested forgiveness.

Set Me Free is a beautiful, emotionally packed listening experience from the soft and delicate to the movingly spirited. Knapp continues to build a catalogue of pure and true human emotions with a backing of faith and compassion while growing as an artist and an individual.
